The Java Applet Security Model: Providing Storage at a Terminal
نویسنده
چکیده
Java, the Java Virtual Machine, and the Java API have captured the imagination of many programmers in the short time since they have been released. In this paper we examine an aspect of the Java API from a security context. We show that the security model is adequate from the perspective of the implementors of Java but fails to provide the function-ality required by users and programmers in the language. A suggestion for providing the facilities required is described.

Mobile code presents a number of threats to machines that execute it. We introduce an approach for protecting machines and the resources they hold from mobile code, and describe a system based on our approach for protecting host machines from Java 1.1 applets. In our approach, each Java applet downloaded to the protected domain is rerouted to a dedicated machine (or set of machines), the playgr...

We analyse the use of a Java graphical tool to model CTG repeat expansion in the DMPK gene which is the underlying cause of myotonic dystrophy. A modelling applet is described and the underlying mathematical and statistical model is discussed. Possible ways of using this applet to handle the expected large volumes of data are outlined and a PJama implementation of persistent data storage using ...
